What IS it with white people and there unquenchable desire to want to use the N word? I don't get it. I don't understand why ANYONE would want to fight to use a racial slur. What is behind this battle white people want to wage to use a word they created to denigrate Blacks with in the first place? Is it because Black people co-opted the slur and now white people want it back? If white people were smart, which they obviously fail aren't in this regard, they would run as far away from the N word and any derivation of said word as fast as they could.
You will never hear me wonder why I can't call an Italian a "wop", or why I can't call a Jew a "kike". I will never scream out why when I am told that calling a Latino a "spic" or a Mexican a "wetback" is not allowed. The initial thought would and should be why would I even want to call those ethnicities any of those racial slurs? I wouldn't. I instead run in the opposite direction from those words as fast and as hard as I do the N word, AND I'M BLACK!!! Why, because they're fucking offensive. So why do white people seemingly want to fight to utter that vile word and then want to justify their using the word?
Michael Richards went on the classic N word tirade while doing stand up comedy one night. He was going at a Black heckler, who was obvious getting the better of him, and chose to use that hot button word over and over and over again. Little did he know that someone was taping the show and when they got home, splashed that racist rant all over Youtube. That forced Michael Richards to apologize publicly with Jessie Jackson by his side. Funny thing is, if that incident were not taped and made public, Michael more than likely would have denied the entire incident ever took place, it would have become an urban legend.
Then came Paula Deen, who absolutely sees nothing wrong with the way she used the N word or wanting to dress up middle aged Black men in plantation era costumes for a "Southern style wedding" for her dear old brother. Being sued by former employee Lisa Jackson, these were her words regarding what she would like to see at her brothers wedding according to the suit,
“Well what I would really like is a bunch of little niggers to wear long-sleeve white shirts, black shorts and black bow ties, you know in the Shirley Temple days, they used to tap dance around,” the lawsuit claims Deen said. “Now that would be a true southern wedding, wouldn’t it? But we can’t do that because the media would be on me about that.”
She was more focused on how the media would respond to that than her actual use of the N word itself or dressing Black men up as house slaves at what was more than likely going to be an all white wedding.
And now we have Tim Allen who wants to use the word and possibly follow Michael and Paula into the land of obscurity. It seems he's confused about when or when not to use the N word. In an interview with Eric Deggans, a Black reporter from the Tampa Bay Times Timmy boy said this,
“I’ve had this argument on stage a million times. I do a movie with Martin Lawrence and pretty soon they’re referring to me, 'hey, my n-----’s up.' So I’m the n----- if I’m around you guys but 7 feet away, if I said n-----, it’s not right. It’s very confusing to the European mind how that works, especially if I’ve either grown up or evolved or whatever, it literally was growing up in Colorado, with Hispanics and Anglos, that’s all I remember. So when Paula Deen (admits her language), they go after her, and now we’ve gone backwards in the world."
Well Mr. Allen, here is a clue for your confused European mind, the right time to use the N word is NEVER! You should never say it, you should never encourage anyone else to ever say, and you shouldn't ever even THINK it! Does that clear some things up for your confused mind? I hope so, and I hope you never utter that word anywhere, but especially on stage because you are bound to get some white person killed. You'll have them thinking it's okay to use it because you used it. That's called reckless endangerment Mr. Allen and their blood would be on your hands. Just saying.

I'm not sure what the reporter's original question was, but the only answer from any white person's mouth about the use of the n- word SHOULD be "I find the term deplorable and offensive. It is unacceptable language, and I have zero tolerance for anyone using that term in my presence." This answer should be the truth of things. It's not that complicated why it's unacceptable. It's not some mysterious social norm we've only recently uncovered. Any white person that thinks the usage of the word by white people is debatable is a damn idiot.
ReplyDeleteAnd no one can fix stupid.
Again...is it a media ploy? When was the last time anyone even heard Tim Allen's name? Maybe he's financially strapped and figures if he can gain the attention of white, racist, conservative America he stands a chance at getting some attendance at an upcoming tour. I'm sure Rush will have this fool make a guest appearance this week to help with his own PR relevance as well.
Disgusting.
The question was about how stand up comedians are trying to make rape funny, alluding to possible new material. Tim said, unprovoked that he's been watching Paula Deen. The reporter then said "Oh no", and that's when Tim said what I quoted.
ReplyDeleteAhhhh...so yet again our country's unquenchable thirst to find entertainment and humor in subjects more and more extreme because our social numbness continues to expand. Everyone that feeds into the media and entertainment industry's shit is just as much to blame. "Maaaaan! Can you believe he said THAT? It was crazy. I couldn't believe it. I just stood there and watched."
ReplyDeleteSuccess is for some damn reason no longer gauged by our ability to gain respect and be humane but by media mentions and appearances, ticket sales, iTunes downloads, and YouTube clicks. And America at large just keeps rewarding the worst of the worst by watching, buying, and clicking.
America's sheep are numb and catatonic waiting for the next thing to shock them momentarily out of their stupor to pay attention. Then most simply nod back off. Few do or say anything.
Of course that's one of the many reasons I admire you, Mark. You're not content to just sit silently back and mumble under your breath. Your blog is a push back against the insanity. I hope you have a ripple effect with your other readers as well.
