I recently had a conversation with my mom about the racial madness and injustice we in this country are currently embroiled in, and I told her I was jealous of her.
"Why?" she asked.
"Because mom," I said, "You lived during that time, that incredible time, those magical days when Malcolm X was alive, and in the prime of his life," I replied.
That's when my relatively calm mother went off. First the huge smile lit up her face, the words followed quickly behind it.
"Oh baby, let me tell you, I used to go to the mosque just to hear him speak cause you know I'm not Muslim but my goodness, he was something special. He was worth the trip, no matter how long it took to get wherever he was at to hear him talk. I loved that man."
All I could do was stand there and smile. After a few seconds I asked, "I wonder what he would say about the world we live in today if he were with us and in his prime, what would he say about the acquittal."
Mom lit up again, "You KNOW he would have something serious to say, something that would probably scare the piss out of white folk," she said and we both laughed at that truth.
"We need someone like him today," I said. Mom nodded her head in agreement, still smiling.
I gave her a kiss and again told her just how jealous I was of her and left her to her crocheting.

I was thinking the same thing, what would Malcolm X say? It seems like back then was so much different than today. Although there are a lot of rallies going on across the country and a lot of people coming together trying to take this to another level, it just seems like back then was still so different.
