Biting at the Presidents Heels, Updated!

I don't know how I feel about this, I mean there have been men throughout history that have made their names, earned their bones, or skins, whatever on the backs of Presidents. Either by being loyal advocates or screaming dissenters, people have applauded and rewarded that loyalty or they applauded and rewarded someone seemingly brave enough to stand up and criticize the most powerful man on the planet. I can respect both of those types, the protagonist and antagonist because that's a natural thing. Not everyone is going to agree with you or like an idea that you have, no matter who you are.

My issue is when that criticism comes with nothing else. No plan or idea on how to make something better, to turn things around, to move that mountain. No, all it is is nonstop vitriol and nothing more, and it's done every time someone puts a mic in front of them no matter where they are. Case in point, Tavis Smiley and Cornell West. These two men have done nothing but voraciously criticize the President every chance they get. And the novelty is that both these men are Black criticizing the first Black President, and they do so relentlessly.

It has become something of an issue to say the least. These two men are either enjoying their time in the spotlight with their bashing of President Obama and have fallen under it's hypnotic glare, or they just don't care. Sean Hannity from Fox News invited both men on his show and greeted them with these words, "I don't think we agree often but I do enjoy when both of you criticize Barack Obama." I don't know what that says to you, but to me it's a clarion call to stop being so vociferous in criticizing the President. If the evil, backwards ass, supremely ignorant Sean Hannity says something like that, wouldn't you think about changing your course instead of continuing to travel down that same road?

I respected Cornell West, never respected or cared much for Tavis but that's my own issue. To watch these two men continue to snipe at the Presidents heels is an embarrassment and it diminishes them in my eyes. I know, I know, who am I, right? Well I could either just be one man who feels this way or I could be one of hundreds, maybe thousands, and possibly millions who feel this way, and when President Obama finally leaves office for the last time with his legacy intact to hang his hat on, what will the legacy be of these two men? What will they have to hang their hats on when it's all said and done?

Update: now the idiot that is Cornell West, while on Tavis Smiley's show this past weekend aimed his vitriol on MSNBC and Rev. Al Sharpton. Claiming Al is still on the "Obama Plantation" and that MSNBC has this "rent-a-negro phenomenon".  It's official, this man has lost his damn mind.

There is speaking out and making a point, there is also agreeable disagreement, but name calling a man many Black people admire and insulting the network he works for incenses me. Earlier I said he was diminishing in my eyes, now he's all but vanished.

  1. Augh...I've never seen a President so viciously and voraciously attacked publicly. From the second he was sworn in the disrespect as gone to extremes that I've never seen. I've found media's disgusting habit of rewarding the worst of the worst with more coverage and attention to be a serious grinding drain on the people and moral of this country. Now more than ever, in order to get their name in the news and get their PR blip, people sink lower and lower below the line of common decency. My mother would whoop my ass for speaking like that about anyone. You just don't act like that!!! Regardless of whether or not you believe his views, politics, stances, etc. He's the President of the United States and should be treated with a basic level of respect.

The media circus continues to nauseate me further and further, and the fact that the public at large just eats it up from both sides of the fence rather than scream ENOUGH! shows that as a culture we've sunk to simply a political, pseudo-intellectual version of Jerry Springer. Will we ever wake up from the mind-numbing crap we're spoon fed???

~sigh~ All I can say is that I admire Obama's endless grace and dignity. It has astounded me at times. His inner strength must be unfathomable.
