To kill because you're bored, to kill someone you have never met before, to kill "just because", it makes me wonder about this world in which I live. People have often asked me why I don't have any children, and while I won't get into all the reasons here, this is one of them. Had I son, and had that son been murdered by three lunatic juveniles, I would have gone after them with all the might I could have mustered up in my body, and NO one would have been able to stop me.
I can't even begin to try and understand the anguish Christopher Lane's parents feel right now. To have their child taken from them in such a random, careless, and cowardly way is almost incomprehensible. I have to ask myself, where were the parents of James Edwards Jr. Chancey Luna, and Michael Jones? I have to wonder how could they have not seen this madness coming, because they were about to go out and kill someone else before the police caught them. How can madness like that NOT have been noticed?
These three killers will spend the rest of their lives in jail which is exactly what they deserve. No, what they deserve is to be left alone in a room with Christopher Lane's family, friends, and teammates for an hour. That would be what I'd want had that been my son, my friend, or my teammate. That would be fair, THAT would be justice!
Children killing is a horrific and tragic product of our society. This isn't the first. Columbine, Moses Lake, Chicago Public Schools...we could go on and on...
ReplyDeleteFirst my bitch...how often does this happen in urban areas? Does it make national headlines? Nope...but now it's in Duncan, Oklahoma, with less than 25,000 people, 90% of whom are white and now there is SUDDENLY a public outcry? Maybe if we had been frustrated 20 years ago, this man's blood wouldn't have stained their streets. But it's always okay as long at it's somewhere else and happening to others. Guess what America...our ambivalence has allowed behavior like this to spread everywhere.
Some how, some where...we are losing our cultural souls. We can blame the media, we can blame economics, we can blame music and video games and movies...but I think we simply need to lay the blame at our societal feet. Where is the village that once raised our children even when there were weaknesses in the family dynamic? Where is the village watching over and correcting our youth? Where is the support for that type of involvement with our neighborhoods and community? Everyone looks the other way when a child steps out of line and grumbles to themselves about the parents. We've all grown lax in our ability to stand up and say..."Enough! Act right!" to not only ourselves but the people around us. If we are EVER to overcome a damn thing in the country, we have to come together and not only take care of one another but to raise each other up.
Every time we say, "It's not my problem." You come one more step closer to it BEING your problem.
Another innocent young man is dead at our collective feet. What the fuck are we going to do about it?
~steps down from soap box~ Sorry...I got started and couldn't stop. ~shrug~ Hmmm...wait...Bueller? Bueller? Oh that's right...it's only crickets out there. lol
